OSCR Short Stay Respite

Temporary short stays out-of-home

Out-of-home (short stay) respite makes it possible for you to get some caregiver relief overnight, for a few days or even for a couple of weeks while your loved one is well taken care of in a short stay bed or room in a long-term care home, retirement home, or other community-based location.

What services are available?

In general, your loved one will have access to the following services:

  • Personal hygiene (e.g. bathing, toileting, dressing/undressing, brushing teeth)
  • Medical reminders and management
  • Three (3) daily nutritious meals

During their stay, your loved one will also have access to the same services and activities that the residents enjoy.

Who is eligible for services?

Your love one may be considered if he/she lives in Mississauga, Halton or south Etobicoke and is:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Medically stable
  • Covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)
  • In need of help with activities of daily living
  • In need of regular on-site supervision or monitoring

The Caregiver Respite Program connects caregivers, or service providers seeking to support caregivers, with the respite services and resources they need to help them be at their best as caregivers so that they can keep their loved ones at home as long as possible.
