On Wednesday, September 30th 2015, Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) health service providers, health system partners, colleagues and friends attended the inaugural Partnering for a Healthier Tomorrow Awards ceremony. The evening capped off with a surprise Pinnacle Award embodying high quality innovative care that was presented to Caregiver Recharge Services: In Home Respite in the Mississauga LHIN.
Delivered in partnership with Able Living Services, Thrive Group, Alzheimer Society of Peel, Home Instead Senior Care, Links2Care, Nucleus Independent Living and University of Waterloo, the Caregiver Recharge service was awarded the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Pinnacle Award this year, for its proven results in reducing emergency department visits and hospitalization, long-term care home placement and caregiver stress. More than 130 senior caregivers received support through the service in 2015/2016. Approximately $860,000 health care dollars were saved as a result of avoiding or delaying institutionalization by providing in home respite services to informal caregivers in 2013.
