The Caregiver ReCharge Services provides temporary, worry-free in-home relief so that you can take a break, whether it’s for a few hours, a day, or a weekend.

Our in-home support services include:

Companionship Support & Safety Monitoring

  • Some recreational activities (i.e. playing cards, reading etc.)
  • Redirection, prompting, cueing
  • Safety checks, helping to prevent wandering

Activities of Daily Living

  • Movement and transfers
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Personal hygiene, bathing and going to the bathroom

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living

  • Preparing meals
  • Help with eating
  • Medication reminders
  • Homemaking (i.e. light housekeeping, laundry)

Eligibility

Eligibility is determined based on a standardized assessments. Clients must live in Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, Halton Hills, Mississauga or South Etobicoke and have a valid health card number.

Our services

Non-medical assistance with personal care, ambulation and range of motion exercises, meals, medication reminders, light housekeeping, safety & risk monitoring and companionship.

Our providers

Our services are provided through out a 24 hours period by skilled Personal support workers (PSWs).

Cost

There is no cost to caregivers for this program. Caregiver Recharge Services are funded by Ontario Health, for caregivers who provide daily support and live in the South Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Halton Hills areas.

FAQ

  • What is In-Home Respite?

    In-Home Respite occurs when a trained staff person provides care to the person you support at home, allowing you to temporarily step away from your caregiving role.

  • Can the PSW accompany my family member for walks/shopping/doctors appointments?

    The Caregiver Recharge service is an in-home service only, PSW are unable to accompany Care recipients (family member).

  • How long is the service?

    Caregiver ReCharge is available for as long as there is a need and eligibility is met through reassessment. It is also subject to availability.

  • What does Caregiver Recharge cost?

    Ontario Health funds Caregiver ReCharge for caregivers who provide support to family members living in the South Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Halton Hills areas.

  • Is there a waitlist for service?

    Service opportunites are determined by the availability and funding capacity of providers. This can cause a delay in service and a wait time may occur.

  • Who qualifies for Caregiver Recharge services?

    • A primary unpaid caregiver and care recipient who demonstrates a need and meets assessment eligibility criteria for services
    • One caregiving location that is within the Home and Community Care Support Services Mississauga Halton boundaries
    • Caregiver and care recipient must both be insured by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)
    • Caregiving support required must be able to be performed by a PSW
  • Who does not qualify for Caregiver Recharge?

    • Caregiver or care recipient under 18 years of age
    • Lives in  retirement home, long term care
    • Client/caregiver lives outside MH LHIN
    • Care recipient in hospital
