Short Stay Respite provides temporary caregiver relief in community-based locations.

We take care of the person you support, while you take care of yourself.

The Short-Stay Respite program allows caregivers to take a break while someone else steps in to fulfill their responsibilities of looking after their loved one. Our Central Registry team helps you access short-stay respite care at the Oakville Senior Citizens Residence (OSCR).


Caregiver relief for up to two weeks, three times a year

If you need some relief away from your home, Oakville Senior Citizens Residence can provide the person in your care with a Short Stay room from two (2) nights to fourteen (14) nights, up to three (3) times per year.

Care is provided at the Oakville Senior Citizens Residence in the thriving community of Bronte Harbour. The property features a café, convenience store, gift shop, pharmacy and lounges on the main floor social hub.

Short Stay Respite services include:

Personal hygiene 

All personal care needs (e.g. bathing, toileting, dressing, undressing, brushing teeth) including access to an onsite hair and nail salon.

Medication

Medication management needs will be carefully planned by OSCR's trained Coordinators.

Meals

Three (3) daily nutritious and well-balanced meals. OSCR's Food Services team and bright dining room make it easy to enjoy your meals!

Activities

During the short-stay, individuals have full access to all of OSCR’s programs, activities and entertainment.

Skilled Providers

Skilled Care Coordinators and a Respite Advisor complete the assessment and intake, while dedicated staff at Oakville Senior Citizens Residence (OSCR) provide direct care.

Eligibility

Must be 18 years of age or older, medically stable and living in the community. Eligibility is determined through a standard assessment. Clients must live in Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, Halton Hills, Mississauga or South Etobicoke.

Cost

Short Stay Respite is partially funded Ontario Health for caregivers who provide support to loved ones living in the South Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Halton Hills areas.

FAQ

  • What is Short Stay Respite?

    Out-of-home (short stay) respite makes it possible for you to get some caregiver relief overnight, for a few days or for up to two of weeks while your family member is well taken care of in a designated Short Stay location, Oakville Senior Citizens Residence (OSCR).

  • Can OSCR Short Stay staff administer insulin injections?

    If insulin support is required, the Coordinators will complete a referral for nursing to assist with insulin injections during your stay. 

  • What services are included?

    In general, your loved one will have access to the following services:

    • Personal hygiene (e.g. bathing, toileting, dressing/undressing, brushing teeth)
    • Medical reminders and management
    • Three (3) daily nutritious meals
    • Participation in social recreational activities
  • Who is eligible for Short Stay services?

    Your family member may be considered if he/she lives in Mississauga, Halton or south Etobicoke and is:

    • 18 years of age or older
    • Medically stable
    • Covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)
    • In need of help with activities of daily living
    • In need of regular on-site supervision or monitoring

    **Note that the client must be able to bear their own weight

  • What is the cost for this program?

    The cost for OSCR short stay is as follows:  

    • Sun - Thurs - $80.00 
    • Fri-Sat + statutory holidays - $110.00
  • Is there a waitlist for the Short Stay program?

    Service opportunites are determined by the availability and funding capacity of providers. This can cause a delay in service and a wait time may occur.
